Springer & Richey

*free outdoor concert at 7pm* pay what you can!

Fiddler Len Springer and singer/multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Richey have performed together in bluegrass bands since 2016. As a duo, they bring an authentic bluegrass sensibility to a broad range of North American roots music—from driving fiddle and banjo instrumentals through ballads in the bluegrass tradition through a variety of dancehall favorites.

Len Springer has performed professionally on fiddle for more than half a century. He toured North America, Europe, and Asia with several well-known country, pop, and bluegrass performers based in Nashville throughout the 1980s and 1990s before settling in Louisiana. Len led the South Louisiana Bluegrass Association from 2001 to 2010 then drew on his musical experience and Ph.D. in education to teach bluegrass at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 2014 to 2021. His fiddling influences include Bobby Hicks, Johnny Gimble, and Stuart Duncan.

Benjamin Richey moved to Lafayette in 2016 to study music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Since that time, he has earned a baccalaureate degree in guitar performance and a master’s in performance with a focus on banjo. Benjamin’s picking has been shaped by his award-winning instructors, including Jake Workman and Kristin Scott Benson, as well as iconic influences such as Tony Rice and Earl Scruggs.
